Opened in March 1999, the center sponsors a number of events and serves as welcome center for gay visitors to Key West. Its huge bulletin board is a good source of information on events. The center has a meeting room named in honor of the late Key West mayor Richard Hayman, the first openly gay mayor in the US. The Hal Walsh Archives, housed at the center, includes books, periodicals, and videotapes that document the lesbian and gay history of Key West.
