Well, if I am not mistaken the most famous gay-friendly destination in the country is San Francisco. While the Bay Area is full of gay bashers, the gays in San Francisco have banded together to create their own neighborhood called the Castro, named after one of the main streets in the area. In this area, gayness flourishes and men can be seen walking down the street holding hands at any time of day or night. It's also a popular destination for San Francisco straights

Another gay and lesbian travel destination is Los Angeles, including Hollywood and Beverly Hills also has a large gay population and is pretty gay and lesbian friendly. Gay bars and gay-friendly businesses and entertainment boom here.

And of course, not to forget the beautiful city of New York is a well-known gay and lesbian destination with many types of night life available to the visitor and lots of gay and lesbian gathering places. It helps in New York to know someone if you're not familiar with the city. It's a big place and it's easy to get swallowed up. Do some research before going to the Big Apple!

A general idea that can be made is that most large metropolitan cities will have a significant gay/lesbian population and you just need to find out from locals or from gay/lesbian organizations where these might be. The majority of t gay/lesbian friendly destinations can be found on both coasts but this is changing and there are places in the Midwest and even in the South where gay/lesbian communities can be found. Just do a little homework and you will be able to find a place that you will love visiting and where you will find lots of friendly faces
